To date the air-e company reports the theft of no less than 30 kilometers of cable throughout the department, which is equivalent to the distances between Barranquilla and the municipality of Santo Tomas.

The stolen copper and aluminum cables are sold by thieves in junkyards.

The last case took place in the rural area of ​​Tubará, in the north of the department, where 110 meters of electrical networks were stolen.

But this situation is not unrelated to the capital of the Department where thieves have taken 3,800 meters of cable in the Center sector and its surroundings alone.
Sectors such as Barranquillita, in the vicinity of the Port Corridor, is another area where blackouts are permanently reported due to cable theft.

A recent example, explains the director of Asocentro, Dina Luz Pardo, was on December 24 when, as a result of the theft of cables in the Villanueva neighborhood, the Center lost power at approximately 5 pm, “which was fatal. ”.

Proposal to curb cable theft

The Air-e company proposed the creation of a cooperation network between users, merchants, Police, Mayor’s Office, investigative agencies and judges.
