After analyzing a study, an amount of 200 million pesos per month was allocated for the care of this road, in the section that includes between the Ernesto Cortissoz airport and the intersection of the Hippodrome neighborhood.
The ANI explained to us that, although the new concession excluded this section, it had the right to a surplus of the two tolls
“Maintenance is covered with resources from the national government, through the ANI. In 15 days they will summon us again to give us more details of how this materializes: if it is the national government that would hire this maintenance or what will be the mechanism to meet that objective”, explained the director of the AMB, Libardo Garcia.
It must be taken into account that, as it is a national road, the interventions in this corridor of the Eastern road, until reaching Cartagena, correspond to the Nation. However, after the award of the new concession Caribbean Route 2the section in question was excluded.
That is to say, the segment between the air terminal and the intersection of the municipality of Soledad was left without mourners and without resources for its maintenance. Therefore, it became necessary to finalize this agreement.
“The ANI explained to us that, although the new concession excluded this section, it had the right to surpluses from the two tolls, both the Sabanagrande and Galapa ones, and these surpluses were going to be committed in this agreement, to guarantee the maintenance and even possible extensions of the road”, added García.
This agreement was made with two conditions: The first consisted of activating the new concession, which began operating at the end of last year. While the second condition is that said surpluses are generated.
The 30th Street Widening Project
The road is being designed so that it has four lanes on each road with its urban planning, regularization of electrical networks, hydraulic designs
Due to the growth of Barranquilla, the increase in visitors and the total reactivation of sectors such as education and business, there are considerable traffic jams on Calle 30 on a daily basis, especially during peak hours.
Given this scenario, EL TIEMPO learned that the Government of Atlántico is advancing with an expansion project at this point on the airport highway. In fact, the company Golden Gate Caribbean Development he is in charge of the designs.
It is estimated that they would be one hundred percent in phase 3 at the end of the first half of this year. From these designs, the total budget for the expansion will come out and from the budget it would be defined how much the Nation contributes, through the surplus mechanism, through this mechanism.
“The road is being designed so that it has four lanes on each road with its urban planning, regularization of electrical networks, hydraulic designs for the proper management of rainwater, improvements in vehicular flow in races 17 and 19, of Soledad. Likewise In this way, it is expected to serve as continuity with the road profile of Calle 30 that corresponds to the District of Barranquilla,” Infrastructure Secretary Nury Logreira told this outlet.
He added that the designs correspond to the section that goes from the bridge of the Circunvalar avenue (Inem) to the entrance of the Ernesto Cortissoz airport. These studies are expected to be completed in about three months.

Another stretch under consideration
The protest of a community from Soledad, which drew attention to an abandoned section between the 30th street bridge over the Circunvalar and the information billboard ‘Hasta acárrive Barranquilla’, had its effect.
The inhabitants of this sector pointed out that neither the District nor the municipality have plans to intervene the road that it’s in bad condition. Therefore, they demonstrated and even took the initiative to fix it by their own means.
However, this case was also exposed by the AMB in the meeting with the ANI, considering that it is part of the infrastructure of the national order. In response, the Agency agreed to review both this case and the resources for the expansion of Calle 30 and make a statement at the meeting scheduled for 15 days.
