The Medelli Subwayn reported around noon this Thursday, February 3, that an incident occurred on the railway of the transportation system, which caused the death of two workers of the company.

The fatal victims, both Metro contractors, were identified as Gustavo Atehortúa, 49, and Carlos Mario López, 45. Both worked in the infrastructure area.

The men passed away being hit by a train at the Sabaneta Station while conducting routine inspections.

Tomás Elejalde, manager of the Metro, lamented what happened and indicated that it is a very sad day for the company, since the workers who died have been with the company for 25 years.

“There are some procedures and times to carry out these tasks on the rails. All this protocol is related to investigation, we have recordings and cameras to determine what happened,” Elejalde said.
