Carlos Jaime Gutierrez, 60 years old, arrived in Manizales last Thursday to carry an order from Bogotá, an activity with which he earns a living. During his stay in the city, he decided to provide a transportation service through an application and hired by a councilman, Julián Osorio, who took him directly to where two traffic agents immobilized his vehicle and broke it up, since this activity did not It is regulated in our country.
The moment was recorded and went viral on social networks, where thousands of people have expressed their outrage at the fact. EL TIEMPO spoke with Carlos, who described as “lowness” what was done by the politician, who is related to the taxi driver’s union.

“I felt betrayed, cheated, I know I made a mistake because that is not regulated, but it was something very vile, because he used me in a bad way. He already had everything organized with the Police so that as soon as we got to the terminal they would be waiting for me. I believe that public ridicule was not necessary,” said Gutiérrez.
The driver assures that his dedication to this is sporadic and that the only thing he thought of at the time was “the damage they had done to him” by taking the car away from him.

“My surprise when I see two agents and they tell me that the car is immobilized and remains in the yards for five business days. The only thing I did was take pictures of the car and think about how I was going to solve it, because the car is my work tool,” said the driver.
But in addition to the bad moment he experienced, the situation has left him surprised in a good way. Thousands of people have turned to support him and many others have donated money so that he can pay the fine, get the car out of the yards, pay other debts and even found a lawyer to defend him.

“I am really surprised, stunned, I did not expect this support from inside and outside the country. I realize the solidarity that we Colombians have and that fills me with pride. Several lawyers contacted me to support me in the hearing that I have on Tuesday,” he said.
The cow that began as a citizen idea has already reached 20 million pesos, a sum that he never expected to have. “I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to do with them. I have no way to thank all the people who have done this. (….) The first thing will be to pay everything I owe”, added Gutiérrez.

Finally, he assured that he knows that this service is not legal, but he stated that it is a tool that “many have found to have an income.”
The councilman, on W Radio, apologized “for the way the video was made, putting it in public ridicule was not the way, but illegality must be combated,”
