The FARC dissidents attacked this afternoon the caravan in which the governor of Caquetá was traveling, Arnulfo Gasca. The president had just returned from inaugurating a road in the municipality of Solano.

According to first versions, the president is in good health. However, the attack left two dead policemen and five more people injured.

The events occurred around 5:30 p.m. m, approximately, in the Miramar sidewalk. First versions from official sources speak of the activation of a minefield, an action that left two police officers dead and three people injured.
The two victims are patrolmen Miguel Ángel Bernal Espitia and William Rodolfo Echeverría Velasco.

The caravan was made up of the Governor of the department, the Department Police Commanderchiefs of Gaula, Sijin and Sipol, as well as members of the National Army.

The authorities assure that in the area where the events occurred there is no signal available.
“We condemn the cowardly terrorist action that today took the lives of our patrolmen William Echeverría and Miguel Bernal in #Caquetá. We will not allow the murder of any police officer to go unpunished. Solidarity with the families of these heroes of the country,” he assured in the press release. This Saturday night, General Jorge Luis Vargas, director of the Police.
The National Government rejected this attack and sent a message of solidarity with the families of the victims.
“We reject the attack on a caravan in which the Governor of Caquetá was mobilized, which left two police officers dead and several people injured. Solidarity with their families. Colombia does not bow to these cowardly acts, we will continue to fight all criminal structures!” assured the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacios.

For its part, Juan Guillermo Zuluagagovernor of the department of Meta, spoke on Twitter: “I reject and condemn the cowardly attack by FARC dissidents against my colleague @GobArnulfoGasca from @GobCaqueta, where unfortunately two members of our @PoliciaColombia lost their lives. My condolences to their families.”
