There is concern in the municipality of Angostura, in the department of Antioquia, after the authorities warned that Several minors died after practicing a suicidal game that circulates on social networks.
As denounced this Wednesday by the Antioquia Ombudsman’s Office, in dialogue with ‘Teleantioquia’, at least three minors committed suicide in said municipality after, apparently, having participated in the game of the ‘Blue Whale’.
This game, according to the BBC, was created in Russia in 2017. Initially, the game consisted of putting 50 challenges to the participants.
Although initially it was “innocent challenges”, the game progressed to the point of challenging minors to cut off their arms or take their own lives.
The challenge caused alarm around the world. In Europe alone, 130 people lost their lives.

Yucelly Rincón, defender of the people of Antioquia, assured that minors are entering these games again, which would have caused the recent suicides in the municipality of Angostura.
“The boys are leaving sports and education activities, and are entering social networks and using what you remember as ‘the blue whale game’. Now they’re doing it in a hanging mode”, announced the official, in dialogue with ‘Teleantioquia’.

According to the Ombudsman, once the cases of minors who died due to gambling were known, alerts and mental health care routes were activated in the municipality in order to prevent more children and young people from violating their integrity for being part of social media trends.

In addition to the three minors who lost their lives, Municipal authorities identified at least eight other cases of suicide attempts in the area.
After the concern that the cases have caused both at the regional and national levels, Carlos Camargo, ombudsman, affirmed that a protection route has already been activated.
