The 145,000 students from public institutions who spent three days without classes this week have already returned to classrooms in the municipalities of Tolima, after the lifting of the teachers’ strike.
Since February 7, some 8,000 educators and administrators stopped teaching face-to-face classes in 46 municipalities, with the exception of Ibagué, because they were not paid their January salaries and many of them held protest days in the Manuel Murillo Toro park, next to the headquarters. of the governorship.
William Polo, president of the Teachers’ Union of Tolima, Simatol, affirmed that “the educators resumed classes after the payment of January salaries. The teachers returned to their municipalities and restarted their work”, he said, adding that the payment of wages on time is a right of the workers.
Julián Gómez, Secretary of Education of Tolima, affirmed that the delays were due to problems in the virtual platform, which have already been solved.
“This time the settlement of the payroll was done manually, which caused us to fall behind in payments,” said Gómez.
He highlighted the officials of the Ministry of Education “who worked hard, manually, to make payments to teachers and administrators.”
