The Archbishop of Cali, Monsignor Darío de Jesús Monsalve, will continue in his position. This was clarified by the Catholic Church in the capital of Valle del Cauca in the face of rumors on social networks.

“All the bishops of the world, upon reaching 75 years of age, must resign. The archbishop of Cali fulfills them on March 15, 2023. In other words, within a long year is when will have to present the formal resignation to the Holy Father“, explained to the RCN station the priest José Over Gallego, director of communications for the Archdiocese of Cali.
Gallegó added that “what he has done (the Archbishop) is to ask the Pope to name him now and a coadjutor bishop with the right to succession and that is what we are waiting for. So that there is a year of splicing and there are no gaps in the Archdiocese and not be headless as happens in so many dioceses because they delay in the new appointment”.
Monsignor Darío de Jesús Monsalve has been mediator between the national government and the ELN to seek a negotiated solution to the conflict.
