After two days of intense negotiations between representatives of the National Government, the Government of Antioquia and the Committee for the Promotion of the Agrarian Strike, an agreement was reached to deactivate this initiative of social protest scheduled to start this February 14.
And it is that this strike would impact the food chain of the entire department, since Urabá, in addition to bananas, is one of the largest producers of meat and bananas in the country.
For this Monday, it was planned to mobilize the population of agricultural and livestock producers from the municipality of Dabeiba (in western Antioquia) and along the tracks of the banana corridor and the North of Urabá, until reaching Arboletes and affecting the regions adjacent to this area (where Antioquia and Córdoba connect).
The parties reported that the reasons why this demonstration was suspended were the agreements reached with the National Government, among which are the strengthening of banana associations, support in access to agricultural inputs and capacity building. to market the products internationally.
Also the creation of a national table to discuss the issues or problems that afflict this sector.
“They contribute a significant sum of money to help all the producers in the Urabá area and four municipalities in the department of Urabá. At the Table we can carry out all the requirements of the State Ministry and the Departmental Government, where we can sit down and look for solutions to our problems,” said Jesús Hoyos Padilla, a member of the Negotiation Table.
Very good news for Urabá and Antioquia. After 2 days of negotiations we managed to avoid the activation of the agrarian strike.

The managers of the strike and the supportive population, demanded compliance with the agreements they had signed last year with the National Government and to these were added the claims of the banana producers, strongly affected economically by the high production costs of inputs, demanded by these crops, and that are imported from international markets.
“It is an agreement based on respect, reasonableness and the maintenance of legality, where not one millimeter can be yielded. The maintenance of order, of private property, of the protection of the rights of citizens was never in vilo and we have managed, based on this reasonable agreement with the communities, to continue advancing in the development of Urabá,” said Rodolfo Correa Vargas, secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development.
