Journalist Juan Carlos Quiroga was traveling in a truck-type vehicle with his 2-year-old son and his bodyguards near the Colombia neighborhood in Barrancabermeja, Santander.
When he was approached by individuals on a motorcycle who began shooting at the vehicle.
The journalist told the local outlet Mi Gente that days ago he had received a threat via WhatsApp where they called him “toad”.
“I have filed complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office for a situation that occurred with some uniformed men (…) I have a political thought and no one can deny me that and my line is ‘petrista'”, says the journalist.
The journalist was traveling in a vehicle assigned to the National Protection Unit and all the occupants were unharmed.
The Middle Magdalena Police indicated that it would be a robbery. “The truck in which Mr. Quiroga was traveling was hit. It was established that a citizen who was in a commercial establishment had been robbed,” said Colonel Alexander Sánchez, commander of the Magdalena Medio Police.
The official indicated that at the time of the escape “criminals would have confused the escorts of the journalist with police officers and that is when they crashed into the vehicle to cover his departure,” he says.
The facts are the subject of investigation.
