The bear that scares two dogs to defend its territory in Nariño - Other Cities - Colombia

A spectacled bear was captured by the community when it removed two dogs from its habitat that tried to take away its tranquility and violate its natural space in Nariño.

The unusual scene was experienced by an inhabitant of the Miraflores township, in a rural area of ​​the Cumbal municipality, which, in addition to going viral through social networks, served to raise awareness among the population of that area in the south of the department about the need to protect this endangered species.

It all starts when two canines, one brown and the other black, approach a small forest on the top of a mountain and constantly bark, directing their gaze to the trees as if something disturbed them.

Suddenly, the dogs begin to run and it is because an Andean bear comes running out of the forest and chases those who it considers have interrupted its territory.

The bear then continues its chase down the hillside, stopping until it is almost 50 meters away from one of the barking dogs.

Next, the mammal, approximately two meters tall, reaches a tree, tries to climb but prefers to continue walking without taking its eyes off the dogs that never tire of barking.

The bear, typical of the tropical Andes, in recent times has been seeking to leave its territory, but running the risk of reaching places inhabited by people who never cease to be surprised and show fear and fear at its presence.

Faced with this kind of appearances recorded on social networks, there was no shortage of those who took advantage of the occasion to send messages aimed at the protection and conservation of these animals.

This is the case of Fredy Goyes who advised that to prevent a bear attack, the farm should be fenced to prevent the cows from entering the moor or forest. But not only that, he also recommends constantly monitoring the cattle, especially in rainy seasons.

From a media outlet in the city of Ipiales that reproduced the same video, the resident community in the area was asked not to harm the bear and move away.

Likewise, the importance of the spectacled bear was recalled as it is considered the guardian of the moors and gardener of the forest, since it helps to disperse seeds and renew ecosystems.

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Nariño (Corponariño) has also been promoting educational and bear protection campaigns under the phrase “guardians of our legacy”.

According to the entity, it is a very shy and solitary species, with diurnal habits, it reproduces slowly, the females give between one and four offspring, they lactate for a year and can provide parental care for up to two years.
