A special service bus rolled off a precipice on the Ibagué-Cajamarca road and fell into an abyss at kilometer 66, in the sector known as Cajones -also known as La Gamboa-.
Preliminary information indicates that in the event, recorded around 9 pm this Sunday, one person died and at least 30 were injured.
Luis Eduardo González, manager of the Federico Lleras hospital in Ibagué, reported that the deceased person is a woman and that among the injured is her son, a six-month-old baby. The 28-year-old woman died while she was receiving medical attention. At this time the rest of the wounded receive medical attention.
For his part, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Yesid Aldana, was referred to the Asotrauma clinic in Ibagué for multiple fractures.
In addition, the Colombian Scout Association reported that several of the injured are members of the youth movementwho were returning from carrying out a social project in the municipality of Filandia, Quindío.
“Regarding the accident, the Colombian Scout Association already has a team in charge to verify and monitor the health status of the members of our
organization (…) At this time all the young people involved in the accident are being treated in care centers,” he said.
The emergency was attended by the National Police. At first, the bus was stabilized to stop it from rolling and to check if there were more victims or people trapped. The San Rafael Concessionaire reports that, at the moment, there is a total closure at Section 5, on the Ibagué – Cajamarca road.
This special service bus, license plate UZK 163, was affiliated with the tourism company Flota Boyacá Especial. The vehicle began its journey in Filandia, in the department of Quindío, and was heading to Bogotá.
The Scouts Association of Colombia, through a statement, asked the competent authorities “to start an investigation process to determine the reasons for this mishap.”
