The Dique Canal Autonomous Corporation (Cardique) delivered six bioclimatic nurserieswhich use new technologies for an automated irrigation system, powered by solar energywhat makes them friendly to the environment.

The first nursery was delivered to the Community Council of Pontezuela and was built within the Educational Institution of that corregimiento, with the purpose of stimulating environmental education with school projects.

There, this infrastructure serves as a direct learning classroom, while native plant material from the area is produced.

According to Ángelo Bacci, director of Cardique, “this project seeks to empower communities, leaving them with an infrastructure for the production of plant material that, on the one hand, will serve to guarantee the environmental recovery of their territories and, on the other, promote environmental education in the framework of planting native species in each of the areas where we arrive with this strategy”.

Each nursery has the capacity to produce six thousand to ten thousand plants every six months.

Juan Aguilar, president of the Community Council of Pontezuela, indicated that about 1,000 trees will be used to plant in various places in the corregimiento.

Likewise, Alejandro Godoy, rector of the Educational Institution of Pontezuela, specified that sites were identified to plant trees in the courtyard of the educational center and thus turn it into a green lung. Species of oak, campano, cedar, pelinculo and others will be planted.

For her part, Meira González Torres, rector of the Benkos Bioho Educational Institution in San Basilio de Palenque, highlighted the importance of the nursery with six thousand plants.

We thank Cardique for this very special gift”, said Meira González Torres, rector of the Benkos Bioho Educational Institution of San Basilio de Palenque during the delivery of the nursery by Cardique.

The municipality begins the operation of the nursery with the capacity to produce six thousand trees every three months.

Also, after receiving the Cardique self-sustaining bioclimatic nursery, The community of El Salado, corregimiento of El Carmen de Bolívar, intends to start a reforestation process in the urban area.
