A spectacular traffic accident occurred early this Friday in the Plaza de Bolívar in Manizales. A driver, apparently intoxicated, lost control of his vehicle, collided with another, and then crashed into the building.

The alleged state of the man’s intoxication was recorded on videoin which it is seen how the man manages to get out, with the help of third parties, from the Hummer truck, without a shirt and staggers as he manages to justify what happened and says “I have no family, I have nothing.”

In the video it is also heard that the people who are at the scene of the events assure that “they are drunk”.

According to the report of the Search and Rescue Group -BYR, who attended the situation, the truck collided on 23rd Street with the blue Hyundai car, and threw it against the steps that lead to the atrium of the Basilica Cathedral.

This continues without control, it mounts on the platform in the Plaza de Bolívar, knocks down a traffic signal, also a public telephone and ends up crashing against the facade of a clothing store on the corner of 22nd Street.

As a result of the accident, five people were injured, four of them who were taken to care centers. The facts are under investigation.

“Apparently, the people in the truck were in a state of intoxication or hallucinogenic substances and the driver of the Hyundai car had a negative breathalyzer test,” explained Mateo Loaiza, Secretary of Mobility of Manizales.

The official indicated that the fine for driving under the influence of this type of substance can be around 40 million pesos.
