A violent case of animal abuse would have been recorded in the village of Palenque, in Jericó (Antioquia). According to the complaint made through the Animal Connection Twitter account, a small dog known as Tony died after being attacked by a teacher.

The teacher, the complaint says, kicked the animal several times in the presence of her students. Finally, the dog died.

Tony, it seems, frequented the classrooms and was known by the student community. “Those who knew him say that he was friendly with children, playful, affectionate and noble,” they point out from Conexión Animal.

The fact has caused great rejection through social networks, where hundreds of people have strongly condemned the teacher’s actions and request an exemplary sanction. In this regard, the Twitter account where they make the complaint indicates that the case was reported to the authorities and that the Ministry of Education will initiate an internal process against the teacher.

In addition, a sit-in was called for this Sunday, February 27, at 3:00 pm in order to demonstrate against animal abuse and in memory of Tony.

Sanctions for animal abuse in the country

Law 1774 of 2016 establishes that cases of animal abuse that do not cause death or serious injury are sanctioned with fines of 5 to 50 current legal monthly minimum wages.

On the other hand, in cases where the animal dies or is seriously injured the law contemplates between 12 and 36 months in prisonspecial inability between one and three years to exercise the profession, trade, trade or possession that is related to animals, and fines of 5 to 60 current legal monthly minimum wages.

Prison sentences could increase if it is possible to prove service, abusive behavior in public places, sexual acts with animals, if the person uses minors or performs the abuse in front of them or if he is a public servant.

Rejection has caused in Riohacha the disclosure of a video in which a group of misfits attacking with stones and kicks until ending the life of a parrot that was in the gate of a house.

The video shows eight young people, including two women, who noticed the presence of the animal as they passed by and approached the fence where it was located in order to reach it, without being able to do so and continue on their way.

We never thought that it had been attacked, we believed that it had been stolen to sell it

Later, they return and one of them throws a stone at him, while another tries to approach him again with a bag. At that moment ‘Poncho’, as the parrot was called, flies into the street and falls to the ground, a situation that is taken advantage of by one of the youths to kick him.

Later, the scenes are seen in which one of the youths throws a plastic bag across the road, which crashes against a wall and -apparently- inside which the remains of the animal were placed.

The complaint was filed through social networks by Daimis Quiroz, who assures that the parrot had been with his family for more than five years and did not mess with strangers, nor did he attack anyone, rather he greeted whoever passed by.

He explains that ‘Poncho’ at 6 in the afternoon would climb on a tree located outside the house, which was like his house and he used to sleep until the next day, like any other bird.

The opening ceremony of the JJ.OO. Beijing Winter Games 2022 began today at the National Stadium in the Chinese capital, which thus became the first city in history to host both these games and the Summer Games (2008).

The stadium, popularly known as “El Nido” and which was also the scene of the inauguration of the event in 2008, has extremely limited capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has also caused the opening to last one hundred minutes, much shorter than usual.
