The builders of the hotel and shopping center La Sagrada Familia, in the old cloister of the Sisters of Providence, were ordered to demolish any work not contemplated in the license.

This is the controversial story of a construction that, according to the Secretary of Security of Cali, Carlos Soler, it could not exceed five authorized floors with two basements, a decision that had been authorized on June 25, 2013.

The architecture of the school is a heritage of the city and for this reason, different sectors, not only from the Administration, but also from the Colombian Society of Architects, Valle del Cauca section, have been making calls for its preservation.

For the Secretary of Municipal Culture, the new building ended up ‘drowing’ the cloister, the heritage asset.

According to Soler, on May 5, 2015, construction was provisionally suspended.

The official assured that on November 16, 2018 the demolition order was given without it having been complied with to date.

Given the situation, the judicial processes were not long in coming.

The 11th Administrative Circuit Court ordered the suspension and the Contentious Administrative Court reiterated the call.

Soler said that the license has already expired and requires that those in charge of the work process a new application before Heritage, in the district’s Secretary of Culture.

Soler said that if the dismantling of the structure that is without a license is not complied with, the municipality would face a lawsuit of more than 60,000 million pesos for not having executed the resolution for the dismantling ordered since November 16, 2018.

VOA statement on Turkish media regulator’s ‘Internet broadcasting license’

On Monday, February 21, Turkish media regulator RTUK posted an official notice that the VOA Turkish language website would be blocked in 72 hours if VOA does not begin the process of applying for an “Internet broadcasting license.”

Many media organizations within and outside of Turkey have expressed significant concern that this licensing requirement is designed to enable censorship of unfavorable press coverage.

Licensing is the norm for radio and TV broadcasting, because the broadcast spectrum is a finite public resource, and governments have a recognized responsibility to regulate the spectrum to ensure it is used in the broader public’s interest. The internet, by contrast, is not a limited resource, and the only possible purpose of a licensing requirement for internet distribution is enabling censorship.

VOA is a public service international broadcaster, VOA is legally required to provide “accurate, objective, and comprehensive” news coverage to audiences in all of the countries it serves. Accordingly, VOA’s Charter prevents VOA from agreeing to or allowing its coverage to be censored in any way. Our editorial decisions are required to be governed at all times by the highest professional standards of journalism. So VOA could not comply with directives from a regulator to censor or remove content; nor then could VOA willingly agree to subject itself to such censorship.

“The threat to block the websites of the Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, or any other independent, public service, professional news service in Turkey is worrisome,” said Acting VOA Director Yolanda López. “Voice of America’s independent journalism cannot be subject to this or any government’s control which results either in censorship or even the perception of it.”

Accordingly, absent an alternative, VOA believes that it will be obliged to file an objection with Turkish regulators to the request to apply for a license.

About VOA

Voice of America reaches a global weekly audience of more than 311.8 million people in 47 languages. VOA programs are delivered on satellite, cable, shortwave, FM, medium wave, streaming audio and video and more than 2,350 media outlets worldwide. It is funded by the U.S. Congress through USAGM.

In the event that the license registers without an expiration date, has not been renewed in the last 10 years or expires in February 2022 (or a later date), you must carry out the renewal process, because the license has expired today.

This agency recalled the importance of keeping all documents in order. Those who do not renew on time will be disabled to drive the vehicle.

Despite the fact that in Medellín and the other municipalities of the Aburrá Valley there have been improvements in mobility with the two-digit peak and license plate that has been in force since this year, The joy did not last long when the circulation permit came into force and again the citizens report big traffic jams.

This last measure, which has been criticized by various sectors and even by at least two mayors of Aburrá, would not be the only source of congestion, as confirmed by the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area.

Citizen videos have shown that drivers they evade the measure by putting rags on the plates, painting and other elements so as not to be caught by the photodetection cameras violating this restriction.

According to the director of the AMVA, in one day, on average, there are 70,000 motor vehicles that go out on the roads without having a permit for circulation, exemption and being on peak and license plate.

“In Medellin they have a number of LPR cameras installed that allow license plates to be read and information is being crossed to find out if those vehicles may be circulating, it turns out that there are 70,000 vehicles or citizens who do not respect the peak and license plate measures, which are congesting the metropolitan territory,” Palacio said.

Congestion is also added to the fact that nearly 20,000 vehicles are exempt from the peak and license plate measure because they have vehicular gas, without often using this type of fuel.

“If you ask a family member, a friend, someone you know, at many events, find those roads or shortcuts where the traffic agents are not and where there are no cameras to get to the point they want, it’s a reality.”

It should be remembered that at the beginning of February, one week after the entry into force of the Special Permit for Circulation during peak and license plate, 49,270 vehicles were registered using the measure, reaching a collection of 1,565 million pesos.
