Despite the fact that in Medellín and the other municipalities of the Aburrá Valley there have been improvements in mobility with the two-digit peak and license plate that has been in force since this year, The joy did not last long when the circulation permit came into force and again the citizens report big traffic jams.
This last measure, which has been criticized by various sectors and even by at least two mayors of Aburrá, would not be the only source of congestion, as confirmed by the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area.
Citizen videos have shown that drivers they evade the measure by putting rags on the plates, painting and other elements so as not to be caught by the photodetection cameras violating this restriction.
According to the director of the AMVA, in one day, on average, there are 70,000 motor vehicles that go out on the roads without having a permit for circulation, exemption and being on peak and license plate.
“In Medellin they have a number of LPR cameras installed that allow license plates to be read and information is being crossed to find out if those vehicles may be circulating, it turns out that there are 70,000 vehicles or citizens who do not respect the peak and license plate measures, which are congesting the metropolitan territory,” Palacio said.
Congestion is also added to the fact that nearly 20,000 vehicles are exempt from the peak and license plate measure because they have vehicular gas, without often using this type of fuel.
“If you ask a family member, a friend, someone you know, at many events, find those roads or shortcuts where the traffic agents are not and where there are no cameras to get to the point they want, it’s a reality.”
It should be remembered that at the beginning of February, one week after the entry into force of the Special Permit for Circulation during peak and license plate, 49,270 vehicles were registered using the measure, reaching a collection of 1,565 million pesos.
