The lawyer Rodríguez Martínez, representative of two of the victims, acknowledged Vives Caballero’s interest in getting his vehicle policy to become effective quickly and to be able to deliver the economic sum that corresponded to the relatives of the four women and two men who hit while driving drunk.

The insurer relied on a table where the affected person’s condition is specified, that is, the amount of money depended, according to age, dependents

“The accused person maintained a position of help and through his team of lawyers exercised good management that made timely and effective payment possible. In these types of cases, the process normally takes time, however, it can be said that it was compensation in record time, “said the lawyer.

Martínez explained that the negotiations with each family were independent and reserved, and the amount varied according to the characteristics of the victim.

“The insurer relied on a table specifying the condition of the affected party, that is, the amount of money depended, according to age, dependents and other important aspects,” said Rodrigo Martínez, who added that each indemnified actor signed a document that prohibits revealing the amount delivered.

They renounce the process against Enrique Vives

They asked the Prosecutor’s Office to modify the judicial conduct from eventual intent to negligent homicide for which it must respond

Although there is no economic amount that can compensate for the life that was lost, the lawyer reported that all the families, without exception, decided accept the demands that the insurance company raised in the sense of waiving the charges and the entire legal process that they were carrying out against Enrique Vives.

“It is already a fact that the victims are not going to continue the criminal action against the driver, and they also asked the Prosecutor’s Office to modify the judicial conduct from eventual intent to negligent homicide for which they must respond,” said the jurist.

In any case, it is an autonomous decision of the accusing entity if it takes into account the request of the families or maintains its position of taking Vives Caballero to trial and severely sentencing.

For the time being, as requested by the judge, the Prosecutor’s Office has already handed over to the businessman’s defense the evidence in his possession to point him out as the main responsible of the road tragedy that left six dead and an injured teenager.

The preparatory hearing is scheduled for March 3, where the accusing body and Vives’ lawyer will defend their version with evidence and technical arguments about what happened the morning of the accident on the dual carriageway in the Gaira sector.

After accompanying dialogue routes between the youth of Cali and authorities, within the framework of the 2021 National Strike, the ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Colombia, Guilles Bertrand, came to dialogue and learn about the experiences of businessmen.

The EU was one of the key mediators with the protesters in the so-called ‘social outbreak’ in Cali, between April 29 and June 2021. “My presence is part of a commitment followed by the European Union. We have been traveling to Cali for some time, also to Cauca and other cities in Valle del Cauca,” said Bertrand.

With the presence of the European diplomat, his intentions to continue in contact in the regions are reflected. “Since when I started as ambassador in September, I continued that constant dialogue that had been had before, during and now after the strike.”

One of the meetings was with leaders of ProPacific, whose executive director is María Isabel Ulloa, who pointed out that the idea was to show the ambassador: “How through @ProPacificoOrg and @ValleCompromiso we carry out articulated actions in favor of the integral development of Cali, the Valley and the Pacific Region.”

Bertrand highlighted the participation from various business sectors, to expand the dynamics in the employability sector around the social development of the people of Cali. “On the part of the business world I hear a desire for mutual understanding and to move forward with a more shared vision. I have seen a form of economic development that is more inclusive, where all Caleños, particularly the youth, can see their future,” he said.

Taking into account the lack of hope perceived in May and June, due to the absence of dialogue between academia, businessmen, young people, institutions and the State, the European Union has now shown greater participation and economic dynamism in the department.

The determination to leave the past behind and build a shared vision are part of the progress expected from the European Union.

“When I came in October these intentions were felt. Now, what’s interesting about this visit is that there has already been progress and it shows a collective determination to get things done and to bring about long-term change in the city,” he mentioned.

Members of the ‘Agreement for Cali’ participated in the Ambassador’s visit, which has proposed a document to the inhabitants of the city, in which the fundamental minimums are respected to advance in the solution to the existing problem.

The young people have expressed that there is more confidence and will in all the sectors that seek to pacify the region. “Beyond the dialogue tables, we see an understanding on the part of the youth and the businessmen,” said Bertrand.

The Ambassador was in Buenaventura. “I was impressed by the hopefuls for the Middle Pacific peace seat that I met. Despite the many challenges and risks they face, I saw them aware of their historical role and determined to pave the way for peace and carry the voice of the victims.”
