The Biden administration is not advocating for regime change in Russia, the White House said Friday, after a U.S. senator called for Russians to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.

“That is not the position of the U.S. government and certainly not a statement you’ll hear from — coming from the mouth of — anybody working for the administration,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in response to a question from Voice of America.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, suggested in a televised interview Thursday evening that “somebody in Russia” should assassinate Putin. He repeated his statement Friday in another televised appearance on Fox News Channel.

“How does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate … and take this guy out,” Graham told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Following the interview, Graham posted on Twitter, “The only people who can fix this are the Russian people.”

“Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military?” the senator wrote. Marcus Junius Brutus assassinated Roman ruler Julius Caesar, while German army officer Claus von Stauffenberg tried but failed to assassinate German leader Adolf Hitler in July 1944.

Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, called Graham’s comments “unacceptable and outrageous” and said they expressed “off the scale” hatred in the United States toward Russia.

He demanded “official explanations and a strong condemnation of the criminal statements.”

U.S. lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, also criticized Graham’s comments.

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz called Graham’s proposal “an exceptionally bad idea,” while Democratic Reprepresentative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota tweeted: “I really wish our members of Congress would cool it and regulate their remarks as the administration works to avoid WWIII.”

Graham introduced a resolution in Congress condemning Putin and his military commanders for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Ukraine.

Doctors and specialists in endocrinology ask to recognize obesity as a chronic disease, provide more adequate treatments and create prevention programs. March 4, World Obesity Day

Experts call for a multidisciplinary approach to obesity

According to the World Health Organization, obesity has tripled since 1975 worldwide. In 2020, 16% of the Spanish population suffered from this disease, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Obesity is a chronic disease of pandemic dimension. Currently, more than half of the world’s population is overweight. In Europe, one in 5 people.

In Spain, the prevalence of overweight is 39.3% in adults and 21.6% of obesity. However, numerous factors prevent an effective and multidisciplinary approach.

Within the framework of World Obesity Day, the Spanish Society of Endicronology and Nutrition (SEEN) has launched a series of warnings about this pathology, as well as recommendations and requests for the approach and treatment of the disease.

little recognition

The lack of recognition by society and health professionals is one of the factors that makes an adequate approach impossible.

According to the ACTION-IO study, 59% of people with obesity recognize that it is a chronic disease and 80% believe that treatment is their responsibility.

From the association they denounce that many affected take up to 6 years to go to a health professional to request treatment.

In addition, only 44% of patients receive a diagnosis from their doctor and 24% have a follow-up.

This lack of attention is mainly due to factors such as stigmatization, lack of resources, difficult economic access to pharmacological treatment and long waiting lists for surgical treatment.

For this reason, experts ask that obesity be considered as a chronic disease and that a multidisciplinary approach be taken.

Likewise, the SEEN believes that it is necessary to carry out a strategic plan for prevention, diagnosis and treatment and recalls that the origin of obesity is complex and multifactorial.

Physical activity, the best prevention

Genetics, stress and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the causes that can produce this disease.

The health professionals explain that an adequate treatment of obesity can prevent the incidence of cancer, general mortality, cardiovascular problems and remit diabetes.

Similarly, physical activity and following a varied and balanced diet are key to preventing obesity.

For this reason, from the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition they propose to involve the ministries of health and the different institutions to promote health and the creation of a healthier environment.

In addition, the association makes available to primary care a Comprehensive approach guide to obesity to facilitate care from the patients.

Its purpose is to promote greater knowledge and understanding of this disease to improve access to treatment and end stigma.

Main recommendations

The high prevalence, the pleasure that food can bring, the aesthetic pressures, hoaxes and pseudosciences pose a challenge for the health approach.

On the other hand, many professionals lack training in healthy eating and there is a huge shortage of multidisciplinary teams that know how to treat this disease.

However, prevention is the best treatment.

From the medical team of Melio.es, an online blood analysis platform, they launch four recommendations to avoid obesity:

  • Don’t go hungry: eat five meals a day to avoid binge eating and limit snacking. Choose healthy and filling snacks like nuts, dairy products and fruit.
  • Increase the consumption of fruit: fruits provide essential vitamins and minerals for the functioning of the body. They are also rich in fiber and water, so they favor hydration and appetite regulation.
  • Increase physical activity: start gradually with small challenges to keep you active. Change small habits like using the car and change them for a walk. Little by little you can increase the time and introduce more activity.
  • Check your health: carry out regular check-ups of blood tests to determine the existence of dyslipidemia, diabetes or other diseases.

Being put through to a call center conjures feelings of dread and a hopeless acceptance that you will spend a good chunk of your day on hold listening to elevator music but imagine, instead, you were greeted by your favorite Bollywood star or the avatar of a deity – it is not as far-fetched as it sounds.

Radisys, a global leader in telecoms solutions, is using artificial intelligence technology and pre-recorded video to revolutionize and humanize the call center experience with its tool Engage Video Assistant.

“We use human experts, celebrities or an avatar to provide customers what they are looking for,” the firm’s senior director of business development, Shankar Krishnamurthy, told Efe at the Mobile World Congress taking place in Barcelona.

BOGOTA COLOMBIA). Monday, February 28, 2022 (RPTV NEWS AGENCY). A hundred Ukrainians residing in Colombia protested at the Russian Embassy in Bogotá, demanding that Putin stop the attacks against their people. The demonstration was joined by Russian citizens who disagree with the Kremlin’s decision.

“We are going to stop this war ourselves, because the enemy has come to our land, is destroying our houses and killing our people,” said Valeriya Itchenko, a Ukrainian who has lived in Colombia for 15 years.

She, like dozens of her compatriots, came out to protest against Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

“We ask that the whole world listen to us and we ask that the Russian authorities listen to us. What they do is illegal, they must condemn what Putin does,” said Rostyslav, a Ukrainian living in Colombia.

And it is not for less, they and the whole world condemn the Russian advance in Ukrainian territory that has caused the displacement of more than 400,000 Ukrainians.

“They are bombing us and we have tanks in the streets, so who can sleep with that situation like this,” says Elena Rockas, a Ukrainian in Colombia.

The United States and NATO have provided written responses to Moscow, addressing Russia’s renewed security demands, following consultations with various European partners as well as Ukraine — the latest moves in diplomatic maneuvering aimed at heading off armed conflict.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan delivered the document in person Wednesday to Russia’s Foreign Ministry. NATO transmitted to Russia its own responses regarding European security, described by officials as a few pages in length, separately.

Officials portrayed the responses as a way to address the Kremlin’s concerns while also giving all sides a chance to further pursue diplomacy.

“The document we’ve delivered includes concerns of the United States and our allies and partners about Russia’s actions that undermine security — a principled and pragmatic evaluation of the concerns that Russia has raised, and our own proposals for areas where we may be able to find common ground,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters during a press conference.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaks about Russia and Ukraine during a briefing at the State Department in Washington, Jan. 26, 2022.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaks about Russia and Ukraine during a briefing at the State Department in Washington, Jan. 26, 2022.

“We’ve addressed the possibility of reciprocal transparency measures regarding force posture in Ukraine, as well as measures to increase confidence regarding military exercises and maneuvers in Europe,” Blinken said. “We are acting with equal focus and force to bolster Ukraine’s defenses and prepare a swift united response to further Russian aggression.”

U.S. officials declined to elaborate on specifics, though they expressed hope Washington and Moscow still could find consensus and even make progress on issues such as arms control related to missiles in Europe.

Moscow’s security demands include a pause of NATO’s eastward expansion, especially in Ukraine and Georgia, as well as a rollback of NATO troops in Eastern Europe.

The U.S. has dismissed those demands as nonstarters, demanding Russia pull back its forces from the border with Ukraine and instead offering dialogue with Moscow on issues including military exercises and transparency, as well as the placement of missiles.

Russia offered a cautious initial response to the written proposals.

“We will read it. Study it,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told the Interfax news agency when asked about the NATO document. “The partners studied our project for almost a month and a half.”

In contrast, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters there is a growing sense of urgency, calling on Moscow to “withdraw its forces from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, where they are deployed without these countries’ consent.”

“We face a critical moment,” he said, warning that Russia now has positioned more than 100,000 troops along its border with Ukraine, with additional deployments already underway.

“We see also more troops not only in and around Ukraine, but also now in Belarus, where Russia is in the process of deploying thousands of combat troops, hundreds of aircraft, S-400 air defense systems, and a lot of other very advanced capabilities,” Stoltenberg added.

“We have listened to Russian concerns. We have listened also to the Russian call for a written response,” he said. “This is about whether there’s a will to engage in good faith and to try to sit down and find common ground.”

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Wednesday Kyiv had no objections to the U.S. responses to Russia, acknowledging the threat from the number of Russian troops massed along his country’s borders as well as in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian forces.

Still, Kuleba insisted there was no need for panic to take hold.

“The number of Russian troops massed along the border of Ukraine and in the occupied territories of Ukraine is large (and) … poses a threat,” Kuleba said during a Wednesday press briefing. “However, at the moment, as we speak, this number is insufficient for a full-scale offensive against Ukraine along the entire Ukrainian border.”

While the U.S. would not rule out an imminent military move by Russia against Ukraine, a senior State Department official noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin may not want to upset China when the country is hosting the opening ceremony of Winter Olympics.

“We certainly see every indication that [Putin] is going to use military force sometime perhaps now and middle of February,” said Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman on Wednesday during a virtual event with Yalta European Strategy, a European security forum.

“We all are aware that the Beijing Olympics begin on February 4 — the opening ceremony — and Putin is expected to be there,” added Sherman. “I think that probably President Xi Jinping would not be ecstatic if Putin chose that moment to invade Ukraine. So that may affect his timing and his thinking.”

Some analysts agreed with the assessment, noting Russia’s military logistics “have not yet been fully activated to start massive military operations.”

“The Winter Olympics in China, to be held between 4-20 February, might offer some respite,” said Mathieu Boulègue, a research fellow for the Russia and Eurasia program of London-based Chatham House. “To safeguard relations with Beijing, Moscow may avoid repeating its actions of August 2008, when Russia took military action against Georgia, literally during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympics.”

In Kyiv, the U.S. embassy is urging American citizens in the country to consider departing now, citing an “unpredictable” security situation that “can deteriorate with little notice.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian officials rejected the prospect of U.S. sanctions against President Putin, one of several proposed responses if Russian forces were to invade neighboring Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that such sanctions would be “destructive” but not politically painful.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned of “severe” and “enormous” consequences for Putin — including personal sanctions against Putin himself — if the Russian leader mobilizes troops standing ready to strike along the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian intelligence officials put troop estimates at 127,000.

Since 2014, the United States has committed more than $5 billion in both security and non-security assistance to Ukraine, including more than $351 million in assistance to those displaced or affected by “Russia’s aggression,” according to Deputy Secretary of State Sherman.
