Although the pandemic did not prevent the Medellin Flower Fair in the last two years, it did change the way some events were held.

This is the case of the Silleteros Parade, the flagship event of the fair, which in 2020 was held in an improvised parking lot in Santa Elena and a year later it took place inside the Atanasio Girardot stadium.

However, after two complex years, flower artisans will once again parade through the streets of Medellín.

This was confirmed by the municipal Administration, which revealed that The main festival of the Antioquians will be held from August 8 to 15.

The Silleteros Parade, as has been traditional, will be the event in charge of closing the Flower Fair.

“More than 420 silleteros are going to take to the streets this year to show us in a silleta, that canvas of flowers, how beautiful it is to be a peasant. From cultivating, caring for flowers and of course from the creativity of putting it in a chair and showing the world what is grown and sold here”, said the Secretary of Government and Mayor (e), Esteban Restrepo.

For his part, Federico Alzate Zapata, President of the Santa Elena Silleteros Corporation (Cosse), stressed that this event is the most important of the year for them and that the preparation begins from March with the cultivation of flowers.

“We are going to return on August 15, we are preparing to grow flowers, to reactivate tourism and to strengthen the special safeguard plan that is so important for our culture. We will have the silleteritos parade, the silletera week and a whole cultural agenda prepared to show”, said Alzate.
