Buenaventura marches against armed strike and the violent - Cali - Colombia

In Buenaventura, the clamor of its people persists for years against organized armed groups and drug traffickers who impose a regime of terror on its 400,000 inhabitants.

That cry is reflected in the rejection against the announcement of an armed strike in this district city where the most important port in the south-west of the country operates.

That is why this Thursday, February 24, it is expected a mobilization against the violent, like those that have been carried out in recent years, including in 2017 with a civic strike of leaders and hundreds of people from the community.

This mobilization has the support of the Diocese of Buenaventura, which, as in the past, has led protests against violence.

The march will depart at 8:00 am from the Seine headquarters and will go through complex neighborhoods in violence, especially in the insular zone, those with the most misery.

“We ask that the authorities listen and take urgent measures in the city that can no longer resist,” said Monsignor Rubén Darío Jaramillo, Bishop of Buenaventura.

The leader José Luis Rojas expressed that murders, torture, disappearances and extortions by armed groups with ‘narcos’ are rejected.

Leonard Renteria, also a leader, pointed out that the government continues to ignore the call for help with more social investment and true compliance with the agreements during the civic strike in 2017.
