Wednesday, February 16, 2022 (RPTV NEWS AGENCY). “In the most popular neighborhoods, women who are raped are raped by people very close to the family”, these words of the presidential candidate, Ingrid Betancourt, generated rejection because her statement blamed and held the woman responsible for the rape and not to men who violate a woman’s body.
The statements of the candidate for the Presidency for the Green Oxygen party were given in the middle of a debate, where issues such as security, economy and violence were discussed, and that did not sit well with society.
After receiving strong criticism for his statements, Betancourt explained why he said these unfortunate words. “It was a very big muddy. I will pay close attention to how I speak. I have two languages in my head (Spanish and French) and it presented a short circuit”, she said, adding that “women who are in a situation of poverty are the first victims of sexual assault”.
