Medellín: Charge for circulation will be suspended from March 1 - Medellín - Colombia

The special circulation permit, a measure that allowed drivers to pay to travel on the day that the peak and license plate corresponded, will be suspended in Medellin from March 1, after completing its pilot plan.

This was announced by Mayor Daniel Quintero Calle during a press conference this Thursday, after it became known that at least 70,000 vehicles in the city would be evading the measure without paying.

“The congestion charge pilot is going to go until March 1, there we are going to collect information, there it is suspended. Those who have bought, remain exempt, but let’s say there it is suspended. For one or two months we are going to be processing the information and, based on that, we are going to be creating new measures,” said Quintero Calle.

For now, it is known that 97 percent of people did not use this permissionbut it is expected to specify in which communes of the capital of Antioquia more use was made of this resource, in which less and where the people who made the custom removal come from.

It should be remembered that this announcement was made after Braulio Espinosa, mayor of Envigado, prohibited the circulation of people who paid for this permit on the two main roads in his municipality: Las Vegas and El Poblado avenue. This added to the initial prohibition in the municipality of Itagüí, in which despite this measure, only certain roads can be used.
