The National Navy assisted the emergency in the general area of Magangué, on the Magdalena River, district of Madrid.
“This emergency was generated by the collision of a consignment type cargo boat and a boat in which 8 children, 16 adults and 20 older adults were mobilized. The National Navy through the 20th Marine Infantry Battalion, the Police and community attended the emergency, and with two river units, and arrived at the scene and rescued all of these people alive”, reported Colonel Gonzalo Andrés Torres Betancourt, second commander of the Marine Infantry Brigade.

The collision caused the passengers to fly several meters before falling into the brisk waters of the Magdalena. Fortunately for the shipwrecked, the ships of the National Navy arrived soon.
The senior official assured that 12 people, who were affected, were taken to nearby health centers, including a child, two adults and 9 older adults, including 5 women who were pregnant.
