Covid-19 in Colombia cases and deaths February 22, 2022 - Colombia

This Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the Ministry of Health delivered a new report on the pandemic in the country, which accounts for 2,181 new cases and 79 deaths, compared to the 2,174 cases and 80 deaths registered this Tuesday.

In addition, it registered that 34,171 tests were processed (12,729 for PCR and 21,442 for antigens).

These figures continue to mark the trend of a decrease in cases of contagion in recent days. Health Minister Fernando Ruiz assured that the fourth peak in Colombia is already declining in terms of cases, “but surely only until the third week of March we will be reaching the minimum level”.

In fact, Ruiz explained this Wednesday through his Twitter account that “the decision to eliminate the use of face masks linked to 70% coverage in complete schemes had been made by the Advisory Committee two weeks ago and was achieved today. The measure is applied to 451 municipalities thanks to the great progress of the National Vaccination Plan.”

In the country, to date, 33,050,451 tests have been processed. Thus, Colombia reaches 6,054,307 confirmed cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began, in March 2020.

On the other hand, the report accounts for 79 more deaths from the virus. With this update, the total death toll in Colombia amounts to 138,364.

In the last 24 hours, in addition, 2,899 recovered patients were reported. So they are already 5,877,343 patients who have overcome covid-19 in the country to date.

In total, there are 17,173 cases that remain active in Colombia, a figure that is also going down, after the one reported this Tuesday that was 18,022.

How is the National Vaccination Plan going?

As for the progress of National Vaccination Planthe health authority reported that, with a cutoff at 11:59 pm on February 21, 76,367,277 have been applied in the country covid-19 vaccine dose. Of that figure, 36,090,765 correspond to the first dose; 27,164,906, second dose; 8,015,694, to booster doses, and 6,095,912 are from the single-dose vaccine.
