Medellín: Alleged kidnappers of a university student go to jail - Medellín - Colombia

The Attorney General’s Office reported that the three men accused of kidnap a college girl for a month in Medellin they will go to jail while the process takes place.

The 20-year-old girl was released on February 22 thanks to an operation carried out by the Police Gaula.

According to information sent by the Prosecutor’s Office, Jhonatan Pineda Mosquera and Diego Alejandro Jaramillo Guzmán, 22 years old; and Juan David Vargas Jimenez, 32.

The defendants, who did not accept charges, must respond as allegedly responsible for the crime of aggravated extortive kidnapping.

According to the investigation carried out by a specialized prosecutor from the Medellín Sectional, the victim, “a sixth-semester engineering student, was kidnapped on January 20 in the Castilla neighborhood of Medellín, when she was on her way home in a taxi after to share with a friend at a local mall.

The woman was taken to a house in the Popular 1 neighborhood, northeast of Medellín, where she remained in captivity.

The alleged kidnappers would have threatened the young woman with death; for whose liberation they demanded a millionaire sum: 120 million pesos.

Jaramillo, Pineda and Vargas were captured on February 22 in the same building where the university student was rescued.

“None of the defendants accepted their responsibility in the attributed facts, and they will be sent to the detention center determined by Inpec,” reported Natalia Rendón, Medellín sectional director of the Prosecutor’s Office.
